Time Off

Hey friends,

I'll be taking some time off of Facebook for Lent, so please feel free to stop by here if you need your Campo-fix.

I've never actually observed Lent. Ever.
When I was growing up I remember it being only something Catholics did, so it wasn't part of my American Baptist upbringing. However, now that I have a better understanding of its significance, I thought I'd use the time of Lent to strengthen my relationship with The Lord.

How is giving up Facebook going to do that? There are more than a handful of reasons I could give you. But my main concerns are my attention and my attitude.

My attention is always needed somewhere. I'm a mom, a wife, a homemaker, a schedule keeper, and something is always in need of my attention. I can't imagine what I look like to my children when I'm staring at my iPhone, with a furrowed brow, concerned over the latest news story or article in my feed. Or how many times I've said "hang on a minute, I'll be right there." Facebook is one of the first things I check every morning, and I need to be looking at what God has in store for me instead of what the Joneses were up to {or how the Joneses reacted to what we were up to}.

Which brings me to attitude. I can't say that Facebook is a place where my attitude is on par. If I'm being completely honest, I'm judgmental, envious, annoyed, and selfish. These aren't Fruits of the Spirit. They aren't want God wants for me.

I love being so connected with so many people {middle child syndrome?} but for now it's time for me to slow it down and prepare my heart for The Cross.

Are you observing Lent this year?

  1. such a good idea Sharon! I'm with you. I didn't grow up observing Lent it but I like the idea. I deleted the FB and twitter apps off my phone a while back. it has helped a little with my focus though I still struggle with time management related to IG :)
