Kindergarten First Day, Caleb

Today was Caleb's first day of kindergarten. I got up early to get ready and to be sure Caleb was up early enough {since he's such a hard sleeper}. We were also hoping to FaceTime with TJ since it was already the evening his time.

I had woken up Caleb a few times by the time TJ had called, but he was still being a grumper...that is until TJ started asking him about going to kindergarten...and he was excited again.

We chatted for a quick minute until TJ said "I can't believe he's in kindergarten" and I broke a cardinal military-wife rule and teared up on FaceTime {or maybe it's just my rule}. We said our I love yous, I dried my ridiculous tears, and put my game-face on for the rest of the day.

Caleb had wet the bed {which is pretty typical these days} and I let him have a shower in which he instructed that I leave him alone and let him "scrub-a-dub-dub" himself. He had a quick egg-in-a-nest for breakfast, and as soon as he saw me put his lunch in his backpack, he was ready to put it on.

We left super early and parked a bit far so we could walk. It was crazy. You don't really think about all the little details like where you go to pick up and drop off until you're a parent; it's werd.

We made our way to his room and found a hook with his name on it. His was the first backpack to be hung, and I was so glad he'd be walking into a quiet classroom {did I also mention that his class has only seven other kids in it?? and that's with a teacher and two aides! hellooo lucky duck!}.

He showed no signs of nervousness or apprehension {since we had met the teacher the day before}, and I was so surprised that the only thing he wanted was a quick kiss as he made a bee line for the books.

Of course I wasn't at all prepared that Lilly Belle would be so bummed to leave big brother {and his new school & new playground}. She cried the whole way home.

After a little Lilly-sized breakfast, we headed to HCS where TJ teaches PE. I wanted to take some blondies I had made the night before for their staff, since it was also their first day back at school. They've been abundantly supportive of us, and I wanted them to know how much we appreciate them. The trees that line the school were tied with yellow ribbons to honor TJ and his unit. I made a quick blondie drop off and headed to get CC a happy first-day-of-kinder present.

And oh shucks, wouldn't you know ToysRUs wasn't open yet, so Lilly and I killed time next door at Hoppy-Hoppy {Hobby Lobby for those of you who don't speak LC}. She had a field day in the Christmas section, oogling over Christmas trees and ornaments. She didn't want to leave, even after I said TOY STORE about ten times. I will say it is so nice to be out with only one kid at a time. Seriously. And Lilly is the sweetest girl to go errand running with. I'm so glad to have some daily one-on-one time with her.

We made it to ToysRus and she fell in love with Rapunzel {of course}, but ended up trading it for a little stuffed Daniel Tiger which we had to get two of, one for CC.

The whole point of the toy store was to get the Fisher Price doctor set, which we did, since Caleb is obsessed with everything doctor right now! I had it waiting on his bed when he got home and he was sooo happy. He took a nice little cat nap after he said "Um...mom? I did lots of lots of work today."

Yes you did, bug.
Yes you did.

*love you TJ
