instagram friday

A few of the photos from my Instagram this week.

1. Okay the first photo isn't from this week, but I just wanted to mention how ridiculously happy I was that church went so well.  Yes Lilly cried (she almost always does), but getting to church, checking-in, drop-off, pick-up and leaving all went so smoothly.  Usually after church the kids like to play on the playground, and so do a lot of other kids...which overwhelms Caleb...which turns into a meltdown and then makes walking to the car pretty difficult.  But that morning I just calmly said that we weren't going to play on the playground, and he just said "okay."  What?  Praise God.  He truly is working in every bit of this season.

2 & 3. Mother's day was pretty quiet.  We just went to church, In-N-Out for lunch, and to Grandma's for dinner.  Grandma had bought an attachement for her hose that has a Buzz Lightyear rocket that blasts off into the sky and the kids LOVED it.  And good grief, it was over 90 degrees.  We then Face Time'd with TJ on the iPad and passed it around the kitchen table.  It was the first time his family was able to see his face since he left, so it was special.

4. The other day LC and I took my mom to the warehouse for Purl Soho's online store...filled with tons of BEAUTIFUL fabric, yarn, kits, not to mention an old friend (thanks Anna!).  I picked up a yard of this fabric to make into a pillow, now I just need to teach myself how to work my new/old machine.

5.  There are so many services available to help military families stay connected, and this was so special.  While TJ was in Mississippi for processing, the USO had him record himself reading Where The Wild Things Are on a mini dvd.  They then sent us the dvd and another copy of the book.  We've played it so many times, Caleb just loves it.  And he loves when I read along with TJ too.

6.  It's no secret that Caleb loves loves loves his Uncle Matthew.  Uncle Matthew is thirteen years old and lives with Tj's dad, stepmom, and brother Joshua in Virginia.  Every August they come out to visit for a whole month, and Caleb just loves having them around.  Matthew and Joshua both have such sweet souls and Matthew is especially patient and sweet to Caleb.  He even sent Caleb two of his stuffed animals from his own room.  The smile on Caleb's face can only be from the fact that these were from Uncle Matthew.  He was so blissfully excited.

7.  A bit out of order, but today LC and I packed our first care package for daddy.  He's still stateside, and he's only  been gone for three weeks, but I was hoping to send him something before anyone else did!  LC was so good at the store, running errands, and waiting with me at the post office.  We went to 6 different places all before we had to pick up Caleb at noon-thirty.  Trooper.

8.  So this is random, but I absolutely love using Bar Keepers Friend (it's an old staple I've inherited from Tj's Gottschalk-Rochester side).  Anyway, after LC did a certain number in the tub, I had to bust it out and scrub away...which gave me my domestic cardio for the day (also, I'm on the low-carb train at the moment...toot toot).

9.  Yesterday we all had to go to OT together, and I wasn't too excited to go (don't you have days where you just want to call the school, say they're sick, and just stay home? ...well that was yesterday).  The last few times we've gone (because Tj isn't here to watch Lilly) they've both been a crying screaming mess.  Lilly thinks it's a doctor's office...and cries...and Caleb cries because his ears can't handle Lilly crying.  I knew they just needed to eventually deal with it, so I've been pushing through and yesterday they got it...they were great.  No one cried, and his OT therapist said he did so well.

Caleb has his IEP next week, and I'm actually really excited for it.  I just had a conference with his teacher, who I love, and I'm very confident with the goals we're creating for him. She's also incredibly insightful and has given me a lot of ideas for the summer (not to mention, when I find someone who speaks our language --autism--I just can't stop jabbering, and I could jabber with her for days on the subject). Hugs to you all.

And finally, here are two screen shots from FaceTime with daddy.
{love you Tj}
