It's Monday and I'm already tired.
First things first. Caleb started sniffling and sneezing last night and I knew it would be worse when he woke up this morning. Both kids slept horribly last night; Caleb was sniffling & coughing, and Lilly couldn't find her binkies. I kept Caleb home from school with only eight school days left, but I dragged him to Monday morning errands with watering eyes and a drippy nose {ps how do you catch a cold in JUNE?!}.
First off was Target to pick up a few groceries and essentials {lamps are essentials, right?}. I've recently let Caleb walk along side me as I push Lilly in the cart and he loves it. It's extra work for me because he wanders a bit, he has no concept I personal space or ability to sense that someone is crossing in front of him (or that he's about to crash into a display of fabric softeners) and he HAS to walk along the red lines that outline the isles {yeesh}. Not to mention he dropped 5 pieces of pop corn on the floor and lost his mind...over five pieces. Some days I wonder if people know; if they notice my tone of voice or how I'm choosing my words, or how my almost five year old son is laying on the floor at the checkout stand or waking with his head flung back while squinting at the lights on the ceiling...
The next place (which was new to Caleb) was the post office. There were only three people in front of us and two registers open, but lining up in that tight space can be so overwhelming. He danced around, bouncing into people and things as I held Lilly on my hip and a box to send in my other hand. Thank goodness for my keys on a carabiner and the words "hold my hand or hold my keys." At long last it was our turn. The sweet lady behind the tall counter informed me that it would be half the price to send my parcel if I put everything into a different sized box. As I was uttering the word "ummm..." and thinking {how in the world am I gonna do this here on the floor with two kids}, she said "...I can help you with that." So she proceeded to open my box, go get another, and move everything around, just to save me money...while the ten people behind me moaned and groaned while they waited for me to finish. Thank you to that sweet lady at the post office, and thank you to the other customers for not spitting on me as I walked by with my two kids. Mondays are hard for everyone, I'm just happy to have my coffee.
*miss you TJ
