I was reading my way around the internet today and came across this article posted by Psychology Today. It's called 10 Things You Can do to Help a Family Affected by Autism. I really enjoyed reading it, and I felt like it hit the nail on the head on various points. We've had such an outpouring of love and support around us, but even though 1 in 88 children now have Autism, there are still people out there who don't quite know what to say/do around a family affected by Autism...which is fine...the Autism explosion is still relatively new. With that said, I think the things listed in the article just might give YOU the chance to make YOURSELF aware of the best ways to interact. One day soon, one very very real day, this won't just be something your neighbor's cousin's step-brother's nephew has (or something your "old friend who you now only talk to on Facebook"'s son has); Autism is real, it is growing, and very soon it will affect those closest to you. So let's put on our big-kid pants and choose to educate ourselves to better love those around us.
